Forward 2045

A City of Winston-Salem project

This video is one of several produced by AFFIX Studios for Forward 2045, an initiative led by the City of Winston-Salem. This project highlights several prominent figures in the local community who are making a unique impact.

I worked alongside the team to create supporting assets that would be used in the rollout of the project. The final images are featured on billboards around Winston-Salem prompting resident to complete an online survey for the betterment of their city.

The Stewart Family

Garret and Kerri took great pride in sharing their story with us, and for good reason! Their children are the eleventh generation to live on their history-steeped property.

Their goal at The Conrad Family Farm is to produce as much of their own food as possible while also providing their community with access to farm fresh options. The three acres property is home to "around one hundred chickens, for eggs and meat, pigs, rabbits, turkeys, a dairy cow, 5000 square-foot vegetable garden, perennial garden, and a very young orchard."

Antwan Hughes Jr.

Hughes is a gold medal Junior Olympian, having won the           100-meter dash with a time of 10.48 seconds.

We spent an afternoon with him before practice at Parkland High School. It was made immediately clear that his status as gold medalist was well recognized amongst his peers. As we unloaded our gear students would come up and ask "are you here for AJ?"

Vivián Joyner & Stephanie Tyson

Sweet Potatoes is an "award winning restaurant in the Downtown Arts District of Winston Salem, where they serve unique, southern inspired uptown, down - home cooking."

The cozy eatery is led by knowledgeable manager Vivián and talented chef Stephanie. We got to hear their story and how they view their restaurant as a key place for the Winston-Salem community to gather. At the conclusion of our time with them, Stephanie prepared us an incredible plate of shrimp and grits.

David Villada

David is the founder of New Life Nueva Vida, a program designed to help give troubled youth a different outlet. Nueva Vida has offerings such as music classes and boxing to help redirect children that may be struggling to find a way out of a dangerous cycle.

In our time with David, it was clear that he is immensely passionate about his work and connecting with the community. He lost no time in getting to know every stranger that passed by our set and made sure to give his contact information in case they ever needed anything.
